“Light your fire.” – Period Buick Skylark advertisement headline
Offered here is a 1972 Buick Skylark Convertible, a recreation of the GS455 Stage 1 model, in light-blue metallic over blue under a white fabric top. The car's odometer shows 3,917, likely indicating the mileage amassed since the restoration and modification work was completed.
The exterior light-blue metallic paint has been refreshed and shows good overall gloss. Twin-air-intake hood, quad-headlight surrounds, and rear spoiler are other extras to take note of. Badging is limited to a single “455” emblem in the front grille and the “Buick” lettering included in the rear chrome bumper. There are no “GS” poser badges. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses are clear and uncracked. Chrome bumpers and trim show minimal patina from age. Five-spoke body-color-painted wheels with Buick-logo center caps are mounted with Defender 225/70 blackwall tires in front, and wider BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires in the rear.
The interior color theme is blue, with vertically pleated blue-velour upholstery covering the well-bolstered front buckets and rear bench seat. Original door trim echoes the upholstery with a vertically pleated blue vinyl look. Blue carpeting covers the cabin floors. A replacement RoadMaster 3-spoke, brushed-metal-trimmed steering wheel fronts a black dashboard and square-design instrument panel. Factory instruments have been augmented with an AutoMeter oil-pressure and coolant-temperature gauges incorporated into the dash; an exterior tachometer is mounted in the aftermarket hood. An aftermarket Buick-branded AM-FM radio is mounted in the original factory-radio location with Pioneer speakers added to the under-dash trim. The ProMatic2 shifter for the automatic transmission is floor-mounted.
Under the hood, it's all business with a 455-cubic-inch Stage 1 powerplant wearing red engine-block paint and a chrome, open-sided air cleaner to accept cold air entering through the hood intakes. The engine bay is clean, properly ordered, and features an aluminum radiator. Viewed from below, the chassis is similarly clean, undamaged, and complete. Visual focal points include the custom exhaust headers and collector pipes, clean lower-engine surfaces, full-length dual-exhaust system with crossover, Hotchkiss swaybar, and TCI transmission.
While the more than 185 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '72 Buick Skylark Convertible in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.
This celebration of early-Seventies Buick performance offers all the sound and fury that routinely surprised Pontiac and Chevy owners--to say nothing of the MOPAR and blue-oval crowd-- back in the day. And it'll still do the same today… at car shows and stoplights
