History is full of rivalries between two strong competitors like Coke vs. Pepsi, AT&T vs. MCI, Nike vs. Reebok, and Bill Gates vs. Steve Jobs. In almost every case, the competition and the drive to outdo a rival resulted in the production of superior products by both companies and benefited the consumer with high quality and lower prices. The rivalry between the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang has run for more than a half a century with similar results. Both vehicles, rear-wheel-drive, 2 plus 2 American sports coupes began their battle for customers starting in the 1960s, and each has had its ups and downs. Except for a Camaro hiatus from 2003 to 2010, each year has brought a new model with features designed to surpass the competition. The seemingly inexhaustible attraction of inexpensive V8 horsepower, sports car road handling, and stylish good looks has permitted the classic American pony car civil war to continue well into the 21st century.

A millennial if you will, 1 owner, 54K miles, original drivetrain, T topped, aero design and ready to take on a Mustang. Early signs point to looking great and turn the key and go!

Exterior
All bathed in Monterey Maroon Metallic, she's in good shape with the paint. A few scratches throughout, but mere battle scars in the whole scope of this car. Inset headlights are a bit fogged, but they have remedies for this. “T” tops are removable panels and are fashioned from smoked glass. Gaps are looking good, and steel and neoprene meld together nicely. All swept back for the front grille and windshield framed in black with a rear greenhouse glass that runs rearward and eventually is topped by a spoiler that integrates nicely into the rear quarter. Black badging is all there, and 16 inch 10 spoked wheels are wrapped by BF Goodrich rubber.

Interior
An aerial view from the removed T tops and we see plenty of comfortable broadcloth with light gray and dark gray rag roll printed inserts and smooth gray velour bolsters. This holds true for the front buckets, and rear 2 plus 2 seating which is all looking good, no smudges, stains or tears. The door panels utilize this same “rag roll” light and dark pattern which mixes with molded plastic and some carpeted inserts all are shades of gray. Power windows, locks and a mirror toggle are on the door as well. The original clean arched black dash houses the gauges which are sporting white numbers and letters, red pointers and a red LED odometer readout. In the center of the dash is an AM/FM/CD radio with another LED digital readout this time in blue. Climate controls, and a 35th anniversary badge are also mounted here. A clean curvy molded plastic center console runs between the seats, and on the floor is nice clean gray carpet. In back under the hatchback is a large storage area covered in near perfect gray felt, and there's room for the removed smoked glass of the tops if you desire to put them here.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a nicely detailed no corrosion, 5.7-liter LS1 V8. It has electronic fuel injection, and a 4-speed automatic, and in back with a 10-bolt 2.73 posi rear axle.

Undercarriage
Underneath we see some surface rust in exhaust and suspension parts and some of it starting on the fronts of the floorpans. The car is definitely structurally sound with no drips coming from the LS1. Independent coil springs are upfront and on back is a torque arm. Power disc brakes for each of the 4 corners, and it appears to be the original exhaust based on the surface rust.

Drive-Ability
This millennial behaved nicely on the test track, firing right up, and proved no match for the track. Good acceleration, bias free braking on the panic stopping test, and it handled well. All functions were on point, and the removable T top provided plenty of airflow.

Our 1 owner treasured this car, using it as his driver when he wanted to impress someone, and now off to the Mall where it can go to the capable hands of another person who appreciates the bowtie and LS1 setup from 2002. Turn the key and go and have a Mustang for lunch.
