1985 Ford Mustang GT
A Foxbody Mustang is a Mustang produced anywhere from 1979 to 1993. It doesn't matter if it's a coupe, convertible, or a hatch. It also doesn't matter what engine it has either, or transmission. As long as it's between the ages of 1979 and 1993, it's a Foxbody. I know, it's a really weird name to give to a car. But, it's called a Foxbody because it's on the Ford Fox platform. Ford designed the Fox platform as a unibody chassis and used it across a wide range of Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles. Ford's main objective with the Fox platform was to downsize the massive cars they made in the '70s.
Welcome to 1985, and this consignment in the form of a 1985 Foxbody Mustang convertible. The consigner states that this car is all original, even down to the paint, and the 38,296 miles indicated are original. A few areas of fading, and some scratches for the front bumper mid section and drivers front quarter, but otherwise very nice condition overall. Put the top down and breathe in 1985 all over again.
Exterior
Like new Medium Charcoal Gray Metallic bathes the exterior of this car. Adorning the midline is a darker stripe of titanium gray, and this runs around the car creating various coves and flares, as well as some embossed badging just north of the rockers. This is also noted on the hood with a knockout decal GT badge. A black convertible top in excellent condition is above and it has a clear glass rear window. Standard 15-inch 10 hole wheels are on all 4 corners. Up front are dual rectangular headlights set deep within a black surrounding plastic bezel.
Interior
All original and all shades of light and dark gray with black handles for the door panels. To spice up the gray, are front buckets and a rear 2 plus 2 bench. These have dark gray small checkered inserts and lighter broadcloth bolsters, and a red wide piping delineating the shades of gray. These float in a sea of clean gray carpeting. The dash is black and original with slighter lighter black inserts that have machine screws to mount these individual plates which house the instrumentation. In the center is an aftermarket Alpine AM/FM/cassette stereo. Just below this at the front of the console is a digital readout clock, and an overhead graphic showing fuel, washer fluid levels, and exterior lights which are not lit. Moving back is the shift lever with a black leather boot, and the handbrake lever, also in black within the gray stitched console sides. Seen when the top is down is a very nice tonneau covering all buttoned up for this interior.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is an original 5.0 Liter V8 which shows some slight patina but is clean. This is fed by a Holley 4 barrel carburetor, and has a T5 5-speed manual transmission on back. A Ford 7.5-inch rear with 2.73 rear TracLok axle setup is noted to push this car along. Machined cast valve coverings and no corrosion for all the bolt ons, as well as a spun stainless dual snout air cleaner covering with a 5.0 Liter 4V H.O. Badge on its top.
Undercarriage
Very slight surface rust is seen but mostly structurally solid unibody construction with clear floor pans and rockers. Independent coil springs and 4 link with coil spring suspension as well as power disc brakes on front and power drums on the rear are noted. Dual exhaust snakes its way rearward and shows some slight rust on the mufflers.
Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and handled the test track with flying colors. A great handler, and tight car, so a 2 thumbs up goes to it.
All original here folks complete with its small battle scars, a like new top and interior, and overall really nicely preserved survivor. And of course, engine power from the 5 liter that is sly as a Fox!
